While some dogs may not mind at all, it is not worth the risk of making your amazing hunting companion suddenly become gun shy! Your dog is your buddy, and you have a lot of time and money invested in him. You need a plan to protect him during the days when exposure to fireworks is likely. The plan should include the entire time period during which firework usage is legal or likely to take place in your community. The best plan would be to bring your dog inside and far from the loud booms. If that is not possible, playing loud music to distract him from the fireworks may help, but there is no guarantee. Although most dogs are highly intelligent animals, they don't understand when we try to tell them it will be OK. Once a dog goes gun shy, it is extremely difficult to bring him out of it. Some dogs may never want to be around shooting ever again! Please start planning now and help spread the word!
